What I would LIKE to read…

Hello all!

While I was busy with the BookTubeAThon I thought heavily about all the books I’ve said I want to read yet still haven’t got around to actually reading. I mean, that is why I started this blog in the first place, but I’d like to share with you some of my thoughts and musings and the genres, authors and books I’d like to read in the next few months.

1. Classics

That’s right. I think we all say that we want to read more classics and I might try to read at least one every month. Here are a few I’d like to read pretty soon:

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen: I’ve started this book more times than I can remember, but have never gotten to the end. Not because I don’t like it, but just…because. I can’t really put my finger on it. I feel I used to try and read it because I felt it was a book I SHOULD have read, rather than a book I would like to read. Now, I’m definitely in the mood to read it, so I’m hoping I can tick this off the list fairly soon.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee: With “Go Set a Watchman” having come out recently, my desire to read this book has increased significantly. I’ve seen the film countless times, but I’d like to read it soon, especially as it is my mother’s favourite book.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald: This is another book that I feel I ought to have read, but just haven’t gotten around to it. I know a lot of people read this at school; I was not one of them… but I’d like to read this one as it’s been sitting on Kindle for a really long time now. (Plus, I really want to watch the film once I’ve read it because Carey Mulligan <3)

2. Terry Pratchett

Having read Good Omens, I really want to read more (read: all) of Terry Pratchett’s work. I have decided to read his work chronologically, rather than thematically. I have many reasons for making this choice, one of which is simply this: most of the time, I have to do, read or watch things in order. I just do.* Some of my friends warned me against reading his work chronologically because “his earlier work isn’t as good as some of his later publications” and they don’t want me to stop reading before I get to the good stuff. If this is in fact the case, I don’t mind. I’ll work my way through and I promise I won’t judge his entire bibliography on his first three books.

3. Neil Gaiman

For those of you who were screaming, “What about Neil Gaiman?!” while reading number 2, don’t worry; I know he co-wrote Good Omens. I would also like to read his work. I loved Neverwhere on Radio 4 but actually haven’t read it. I also really, and I mean, REALLY want to read The Sandman graphic novels.

4. Cassandra Clare

I have heard and read so much about Cassandra Clare’s books. I just HAVE to read them.

5. Graphic Novels

I’m slowly getting into reading comics again and I prefer reading trade paperbacks. I’ve really enjoyed Saga by Brian K. Vaughan (roll on September 15 for Vol. 5!), I’ve recently started The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman and I’d like to start Fables by Bill Willingham soon. But I want more. Please do offer your suggestions as to which comics I should check out, whether they are series or standalones!

*For example: I saw 22 Jump Street before seeing 21 Jump Street (you should have seen the fuss I kicked up in front of the cinema as my friends decided on that film) and it pained me. Even though I really enjoyed it, I had to watch the first movie very soon after.
