The New Year’s Resolution Tag

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello all! I’m a bit late to the New Year’s Resolutions party, but I do love a good list, so I hope you enjoy reading my answers! This tag was created by Emily from embuhlee liest and Shivii so please do check out their blogs! A big thank you to Panda over at Panda’s Books for tagging me.

The New Year’s Resolution Tag

Get in shape – name a book that doesn’t quite fit on your shelf correctly

Doctor Who Colouring Book

2016-01-16 10.56.492016-01-16 10.56.55-1

Doctor Who Colouring Book by James Newman Gray, Lee Teng Chew and Jan Smith

That would have to be the Doctor Who Colouring Book that Fran bought me for Christmas! It is not helped by the fact that I don’t yet have bookshelves in my room in Scotland!

Eat healthily – name a book you feel was good for you to read

To_Kill_a_Mockingbird cover

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Ahhh, there were SO many contenders for this one, but I think that this stands out as I read it fairly recently. Such an amazing book with so many thought-provoking themes; it really was good for me to read this.

Read more – name a book you keep telling yourself to read but haven’t yet

The Book Thief

The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak

Again, there are a few, but The Book Thief wins this one. I really need to get around to this one eventually. So many books, so little time!

Quit smoking – name a book you kept going back to even though you had finished it

The Little Prince cover

The Little Prince by Antoine Saint-Exupery

I apologise to anyone who has been following my blog for a while because I gush about this book A LOT. It has been made into a film which is out in pretty much every part of the world EXCEPT the United Kingdom, where I live. There is no full release date, just “2016”. TELL ME WHEN THIS FILM IS OUT  IN THE UK SO I CAN TAKE TIME OFF WORK TO PREPARE FOR IT. It is my ultimate favourite book and I’ve lost count of how many times I read it. I haven’t read it for a while though… *addstoTBR*

Save more money – name a book you got for a really good price

Ancillary Mercy

Ancillary Mercy by Ann Leckie

I love a good bargain and I also love perusing charity shops for books and I got Ancillary Mercy in very excellent condition for £2.00 fairly recently (though now I look out for the first two in the trilogy). A notable mention is needed for The Chaos Walking Trilogy which I got for £5.00!

Be more organized – how do you organize your bookshelf?

In London, most of my books are in alphabetical order according to the author’s surname, though they are a bit messy now as I keep swapping books between Scotland and England! In Scotland, because I don’t have a bookshelf, they are sort of stacked and slotted in anywhere that they fit nicely (see pictures above). So, by size, I guess. Series are kept together because, of course they would be.

Be punctual – shortest time and longest time it took you to read a book

PrincessandPony_HiRes

The Princess and the Pony by Kate Beaton

Fire colour one

Fire Colour One by Jenny Valentine

Shortest time: in recent memory, it’s probably The Princess and the Pony by Kate Beaton (10 minutes, if that) which is a great book, by the way.

Longest time: Probably Fire Colour One by Jenny Valentine (31 days); I technically read it in 2 days with a 29 day gap in between, so call it what you will. As I said in my review, this is actually  a very short novel so should have been a short read. Generally, I would start a book again if the gap between reading it goes over a month because I have an awful memory.

Go out more – what book made you isolate yourself from the outside world?

Catching-Fire-Book-Cover

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

The Final Empire

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

I couldn’t pick between Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins and The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. I read Catching Fire in 2 days after taking a lot longer with The Hunger Games. When I was reading The Final Empire, I had withdrawal symptoms at work. I read it on the bus to and from work, then at home in the evenings and just loved it.

Be unique – what was your favourite book of 2015?

The Final Empire

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

good-omens-cover

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

It’s too difficult to pick just one as 2015 was the year I got back into reading properly. I started reading way more in July 2015 after starting this blog, so I think it only fair to pick one pre-blog and one post-blog book. Pre-blog would be The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson (I know…I’ve picked this twice…) and post-blog has to be Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

Be more personal – what book are you waiting for most this year?

Welcome to Night Vale

Technically, this book is already out in hardcover but I am eagerly awaiting Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor to come out in paperback. October 25th, 2016!

Really, resolutions? – what book do you promise to read next this year?

The Lies of Locke Lamora cover

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

I need to stop letting this book’s size intimidate me. I have a really good feeling that I will adore this book, so I need to hurry up and read it!

I tag:

Fran @ Jar of Books

Ariana @ The Quirky Book Nerd

R @ The Mystery Reader

And…anyone else who would like to do this tag!

I know we are more than halfway through January, but it’d be great to see your responses!

Thanks for reading!

  1. a) Scott is lovely and his book is brilliant, really flipping good.
    b) More importantly though Ancillary Justice won EVERY AWARD GOING the year it was published, and for good reason; Ancillary Sword won an award that VERY rarely goes to sequels, and was nominated for a whole bunch more; and Ancillary Mercy might EVEN STILL be the best of the trilogy. Plus and also, Ann Leckie is awesome, and I’ve been her stand-in twice which was itself very cool. What I’m saying is that you NEED Ancillary Justice & Ancillary Sword in your life and to read them LIKE RIGHT NOW, yeah? 😀
