Hello all. I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a little tale of something that happened to me last week:
I received an email from my local library last Thursday which said I needed to pick up a book I had reserved. I couldn’t remember which book nor could I remember actually reserving a book but armed with a heavy bag and a luggage case, I thought one book wouldn’t be so bad to add to the load for the trek home.
I got to the library, gave the library assistant my name and told her I was there to pick up a book. She then proceeded to bring SIX books to the counter. ๐
Shocked, somewhat confused and lamenting the added weight of said books, I looked at the titles in the hope that the library had made a mistake, but alas, I realised that I MUSTย have reserved them as they were all books I wanted to read, but I couldn’t for the life of me remember reserving them…
SIDE NOTE: Now, I cannot lie. I do have a bad memory. I don’t retain information well, but I don’t generally forget things completely. There’s usually a remnant there or something that will then trigger my recollection. Needless to say, neither occurred on this occasion. I drew a complete and total blank.
I glanced over at the reserved shelf and saw Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I told the library assistant that I think I reserved that one as well. She checked it and yes; it was reserved for me. She looked at my account and saw that I already had 6 books out. She added that I’d reserved countless others but they hadn’t arrived at their branch yet.
I smiled at her and tried to save what I could of the situation. ๐
I didn’t tell her this, but I think I reserved the books in my sleep.
Here endeth my tale.
But seriously, I think I have a new problem. Now I am not buying as many books (c.f. Book Buying Ban) but instead, I’m just hoarding as many as I can from the library, even in my sleep…
Tower of books is tower-y…
These are all of the library books I am currently housing in my bedroom. They come from three different libraries (I am a member of four libraries). Seriously, I have a problem.
There is no way I can read all of these before the end of the year, especially as I am not a quick reader and because I have books on my TBRย that I actually own…
I think I will plan some sort of ‘library book read-a-thon’ย to try and get at least some of them out of the way. ๐ You are all welcome to participate if you would like. Details to come soon! ๐
Also, please write in the comments which library book you think I should read next! Probably not any of the history ones at the bottom of the pile…
Thanks for reading!

Oh my goodness, this reminds me so much of myself! Haha ๐ I would definitely recommend giving Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda a try next. I’m currently in the middle of it and it is fantastic!

That works out really well as a book for the Anti-Bullying Week Readathon so it has been added to my TBR. Thank you for the recommendation! ๐

Ooh, you took out Cuckoo Song! (That one’s got some bullying in it, too, if you’re low on options for AntiBullyReads…) As does Percy Jackson…
(That’s a lot of library books to read – when do you have to return them?)

I did! Ahh, I left Cuckoo Song at home, but if I finish all of my others, I can try to read that one next weekend. And I was toying with Percy Jackson, but it’s a bit big and I was trying to pack light. Most of the books are due on Dec 5th, with the option of renewal. ๐
